congo women Little has changed in Africa ever since the genocide took place in Rwanda in 1994 and the Hutus fled to Congo. After that, the tribal clashes made sky full with the cries here in Congo and sheer government apathy along with paucity of funds added more to the woe of innocents who cried and cried and cried but no one to come for their rescue from anywhere.

God has blessed Africa with the greatest mineral wealth. I really don’t know why he put so much conflict and brutality in the region. In Africa, people are sitting on top of the greatest mineral wealth and busy in butchering humanity than exploiting the resources that would certainly open their way for the growth and development.

However, no development only genocides and ethnic cleansings are following one after the other. Here innocence is a curse and to be a woman or a child is even a greater one. Here only the frantic and brutes survive. I have seen men literally lost, for they were the killing machines and emotionally bankrupt. They know nothing else but to kill. Yes, they kill slowly, inch by inch, if they don’t do it at once…they not only kill physically but psychologically, emotionally…they are haunted for sure because humans can’t be so devilish and pitiless.

For women and children, the so-called DR Congo is a living hell and for likes of Zola, miseries are beyond our imagination. Zola, 12, is an intelligent and perspicuous student of seventh class. She belongs to the South Kivu province of Congo, lives in a two-room mud shack house and oblivion of the violent situation that has engulfed thousands in Congo. Going to school and working with parents in the fields was a daily routine of hers.

However, this was the story eight months ago and since then, much water has flown under the bridge. At that time, Zola was as cheerful as the children used to be. But, one day while coming back from the fields she was surrounded by the Hutu tribe people. They took her to the jungle where the brutes crushed her innocence. The lechery and ferocity overpowered their sense to judge and the poor child counted as many as seventeen before she went unconscious.

After that, bearing sexual violence and cooking food to scores of Hutus replaced her daily routine. Now she was slave of those people where no one was caring for her but raping her innocence and pushing her life inch by inch to death. Finally, they let her go but only when she turned pale and too weak to do any work.

Yes, she came back home but not to survive for many days. She is no more afraid of death because it won’t do worse to her. When doctors in Panzi Hospital examined her, they pronounced the verdict for her. She is infected with AIDS and her womb was so badly damaged and infected that reconstructive surgery even can’t do things right again. Irony becomes more astute as Zola does not even know what has happened to her and what she is destined to.

There was no fear in those stoned eyes, no will to live but innumerable questions. Why, why after all innocents have to pay that much for no fault of their own? And above all, how long will it continue, but who to put answers forth – None!

The violence in Democratic Republic of Congo is unspeakable. soldiers, Renegade government military members, myriad militias gang-raped hundreds of women and forcefully made them sex slaves. They suffer traumatic situation both physically and mentally with unwanted pregnancies, lethal diseases like AIDS and boycott by their relatives who labeled them as diseased.

A major threat and reason for the violence in Congo is Rwandese Hutu army who are allied to the 'Interahamwe' or genocidaires. Due to paucity of govt. will these are causing havoc on the civilians. There is the need to break this deal between these two and after that Congolese army taking action – rest will follow. World also owes to the innocents and if help Congolese govt. with the funds, army will be able to aspire its soldiers that are going without salaries and thus turning corrupt.

the conflict and bloodshed in congo is more exploited by the some Europeans and US in particular that imports precious minerals from Congo at a very cheaper price. This would not at all be possible under a democratic dispensation in Congo. Hence, there is no intermediation form all these profit-mongering nations. The only solution to resolve the ethnic rift in Congo is the native people should shun their clan and ethnic loyalty and should nurture a nationalistic outlook in politics and governance in the best interest of their country.

Congo is a failed state and governance that emerged through election is equally incompetent. A peace deal, though, has been signed between the tribes in Congo, and with that, may be, peace will come to the region. Moreover, there is a firm need for the govt. to deal with the arms dealers. But perhaps things are not so easy in Congo and as long as the tribes will continue buying arms from them, they are just impossible to put off…there is lot more in Congo to do… govt. neither have funds nor the will…army personnels are joining the tribes since they go without salary for long…so now the question is what to do to restore peace????? And there only seems only darkness and no light at the tunnel…

The incidents of sexual assault have taken a form of epidemic in Congo. In most of the cases, women never report about the incidents happened with them because of the fear of rejection by relatives.

There is no law working in Congo to give justice to rape victims. A European-based NGO, Rejusco, estimated that two per cent of all the rape victims come out to have legal assistance from authority. This is real Hell!!!

The whole world is talking about Iraq, Afghanistan and Darfur. Look what is happening in Congo. This is not less than a war taking place in the African continent. More people have died in Congo and more women suffered sexual attack in Congo than in Darfur Iraq and Afghanistan combined.

The civil war in Congo is actually a form of ethnic conflict. In this ethnic conflict, gender violence has become the biggest weapons in the hands of criminals in uniforms. Women in Congo are facing one of the deadliest weapons ever used in the war - rape. The most regular targets in such wars are women. This is more a war against women than the ethnic conflict.

Congo - more than ten years back a genocide had killed about a million people lives in Rwanda, neighboring country to Congo. The violence spilled over into Congo also and millions of people stormed into Congo at that time. Since then, the Congolese army, rebels, and Congo militias are engaged in unending war to grab the power and authority in Congo. Congo has biggest deposits of gold, copper, diamonds, and tin. The UN peacekeeping operation is the largest operation in world but still the situation has been taken the worst form. The first democratic election was also conducted in 40 years but nothing positive came out. Women are the worst victims of the conflict in the country.

In Congo, it can't be said as simple rape where the motto is to fulfill desire. This is weapon of war violently being used against women to destroy the community. This is being done to force the community to accept the power of and authority of the particular armed group. Rape is the tool to spread psychological terror in Congo.

All is not lost about Congo. The UN is doing it's best and bringing the country to peace. It is succeeding. It will be a great nation. People on both sides realize that peace and reconciliation is the only solution.

Situation is bad and going from bad to worse there. Zimbabwean troops are guarding Joseph Kabila. He doesn't have faith in his own forces. The whole country has become a loot up for grabs because of the resources that many countries are eying upon for exploitation. What a state!

Why is the world so divided by difference, a Tutsi or Hutu; a Sunni or Shia; a Christian or Muslim????????? Why all can not live peacefully!!! Perhaps the superiority tints are damaging the world and as long as this will continue… you’ll see it…alas it will continue and there is not even one who is ready to leave the stigma…

In some villages in the remote areas of Congo about 90 per cent of the women have been raped. Male members in the families are generally without arms so, they are incapable of saving their women

WEalh comes with cruelty and violence. This is true in almost everypart of the world. Congo has the greatest mineral wealth but the country is known for the ongoing conflict and brutality in the country. People are on top of great quantity of natural resources but involved in killing each other. Development isn't even their own mind.

Targeting women is the worst crime, what is happening in Congo is the matter of shame for all the women living in any part of the world. we should condemn it and international media should cover it with great courage.
